The mentality of picking a career just because of the money and potential benefits is toxic to a student, resulting in:

  1. A waste of time and effort to choose a job that the student’s not really interested in.
  2. Disappointment.
  3. Crushed dreams that were unrealistic in the first place.

Now, graduating students might be stressing out over what they want to do with their lives, and whether they should make their peers and family proud. But family, peers and money aside, look deep within yourself and see what you love to do. Because your passion can eventually lead to your success.

Happiness in a Job You Love = Less Stress

Working hard in any job can lead to stress, but the stress of being unhappy in a job won’t happen if you love your career. Whether you want to pursue law or film, your potential career won’t be satisfactory if you never had a passion for it. Just think to yourself, in the long run, will you want to choose a career that makes your bank account happier than you?

Every job is hard, no doubt, but a job will be harder if you’re in a career that doesn’t motivate you to wake up every morning. At the end of the week, everyone just wants to get paid. However, would you rather be happy almost every day while you work? Or only be happy when you get your paycheque?

Motivation to do Well = Success

Everyone wants recognition—whether you’re getting praise from your parents for doing your chores or receiving a job well done from your coach. This positive feedback pushes students to be successful in anything they want to do and it can apply to a career they pursue.

If people pursued what they love as a career, it creates ambition and motivation. When people recognize you for your talents, it can be an amazing feeling. Recognition can push you to create something better. People can view your hard work as helpful or admirable. Success aside, creating something positive is a gift of its own.

Within this stage, the cycle continues. The more success you get, the harder you want to work. And eventually, the success will follow after.

Success = Recognition

With success comes recognition. The world is literally your oyster. People crave something new—something that can tear cliches apart. Everything you create is no one else’s but yours. You put a dent on this earth with your creativity, so be that artist. Be that Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter. Be that poet that can shake today’s history. Because nobody else is going to do it but you.

Hold onto your passion and turn it into something real. See if you can find a scholarship for it!
