Over the last few weeks, we finally familiarize ourselves with another school year. New experiences, challenges, and opportunities welcome us and are still on their way. In the blink of an eye, we close in on the first high tension moment of the school year. It’s midterm season.

Of course, this is the moment reality sinks in. The joys of socializing and learning are replaced by a sudden urgency to raise grade averages or maintain them. Basically, this is a moment of academic chaos. Unit summatives and independent study units creep out from the shadows at a quick pace. In the wake of student pressure, how do we stay on track?

Lucky for you, I have a few tips for the midterm season!

Organization is Mandatory

There is no way to manage it without the help of an organizer or weekly planner. Writing down due dates, dedicated workdays, and in-class work periods will all aid you in finding and using your time efficiently. So you can keep your grades up! Knowing when your work is due and how you will complete it is essential.

Avoid Distractions

Of course, that TV show is tempting. It may even be on your mind while you complete your 1500 word essay; however, it’s important not to fall into the trap. Believe it or not, keeping technology and social media out of sight while working keeps your mind focused on the task at hand. A quiet and convenient workspace is also key to avoiding distractions. This will allow you to work efficiently and confidently.

Refocus Yourself

Allocate enough time to finish your assigned work, but also to step back and focus on your well-being. Stepping back allows you to regain focus and approach your assignment with a clear and healthy mind.

Stay Well-Rested and Keep Hydrated

Lack of sleep and dehydration affect concentration and the ability to focus. It is important to enter the midterm season with at least 8 hours of sleep, and with enough water to keep you hydrated and awake. Doing so helps your brain stay alert. Follow a proper sleep schedule to feel more energetic during school lectures and work periods.

Although midterm season comes with high levels of stress and anxiety, maintaining proper time management, restraint, and a healthy mind will allow you to approach the midterm season confidently and with the right abilities to succeed.
