Many students fear science programs because of the heavy demand for scheduled activities, specifically time in the lab. I won’t deny that labs take away from the flexibility in a student schedule. However, it is perfectly possible to be a fully committed athlete and complete a science degree in a reasonable timeframe. The key requirement is organization.

Many of our top-performing athletes who have completed a BSc in a laboratory-based discipline succeed. They have a regular schedule. It goes hand-in-hand with a regular training program.

I would certainly encourage a student to engage in something other than only one’s academic discipline. Life at university is all about balance. Of course, this implies that the academics cannot be too little or too much!
