April hath put a spirit of youth in everything” – William Shakespeare

June is spring at its finest. A month filled with showers, flowers and a season of limitless possibilities. Nature changes all around us as the grass turns greener, the birds serenade all day long and spring cleaning is in full effect. For students, spring represents many positive things:

Semester two ending
Preparing for summer
Rest & relaxation
Inspiration to change
New ventures
Graduation

June is a time of freedom and an opportunity to kickstart the season in a big way. Admit it, winter was… well, cold. It’s time to put away those dreary winter blues and turn up the heat with these spring tips!

The DOs

Connect in Your Community

community outreach

Outreach is one of the best ways to connect with and meet new people. It places you in a mental space that reinforces change and builds your character. Volunteering at a local recreational facility or participating in a non-profit organization program puts you in situations to build bonds with new people.

Even though finding a job after graduation feels like priority number one, it’s equally important to give back to the community—especially one that contributed to your educational success. Additionally, connecting with your community provides an opportunity to build that resume and expand networking skills.

Read a New Genre of Blogs

spring time blogging

Read, read, read! Not an avid book reader? Try reading a genre of blogs. Blogs are an archive of information and tips for a variety of audiences. For example, The Student Life Network features blogs written by students, for students! Find a blog that speaks to you, and dive in.

The DON’Ts

Avoid Binge-Streaming This Spring!

binge watching

This is easier said than done, right? School is officially over. There are no assignments, essays or exams to worry about. You can catch up on your favorite series or start a new one on your list. However, binge-watching can cause more harm than good. According to Dictionary.com, the definition of binge is “a period or bout, usually brief, or excessive indulgence, as in eating, drinking alcoholic beverages, etc.”

Therefore, watching a show or series for an excessive amount of time is an over-indulgence that’s bad for your health! Binge-watching wastes time that could be productively spent on something else. Basically, it’s a form of procrastination. There’s nothing wrong with watching your favorite shows as a leisure activity but make sure you spend that time wisely. Challenge yourself this Spring and resist the urge to binge!

Never Settle for Less than Your Best!

There is nothing holding you back. Once you accept this truth your mind will be at ease. We all feel insecure about our accomplishments, especially at the end of the school year if we haven’t met our own standards. However, success is defined from both an objective and subjective perspective. In other words, you can physically measure success by comparing yourself to others or accept who you are with no strings attached.

Furthermore, you are a strong, bold and hard-working individual who has the potential to obtain their goals. If you give up before the Spring challenge begins, you will never break the limitations that may be holding you back. Never settle for less than your best.
