With the Toronto Mayoral election generating buzz internationally (thanks Rob Ford) we reached out to our Toronto SLNers to find out their opinions on the upcoming vote.

According to our poll most students said they’re voting for Olivia Chow with Rob Ford and John Tory in second and third places respectively. However, in true Ford fashion there has recently been a bit of a shake-up in Mayoral candidates. Rob Ford has bowed out of the race for mayor and will instead run for city council in his own ward, while his brother Doug Ford takes his place to run for mayor. My high school civics teacher forgot to mention that municipal politics is essentially a game of musical chairs.

In terms of important issues facing students, transit was the clear frontrunner with 86% expressing concerns. Also high priorities in students’ minds were unemployment (64%) and high taxes (54%).
